Come hear a fascinating talk on “Life in the Slums: The Lower East Side in the Late Nineteenth Century.”
In 1892, photo journalist Jacob Riis ventured into the Lower East Side to find out what life was like in the most notorious tenement district of the city. On his mission he encountered a 12-year-old immigrant Italian girl, only identified as “Little Susie.” This talk seeks to reconstruct as much as we can know about her world and life in the slums of NYC.
