President’s End of Year Letter
Dear Friends of Historic Huletts Landing,
Happy Holidays and wishes for a safe and happy 2021 and a return to our community activities. I wanted to provide a quick wrap up of our year as an organization.
Covid Response – After much consultation, out of an abundance of caution FHHL cancelled all meetings and events with concern for our community health. We did donate $250. to the New York food bank, to provide food for those worst affected by the pandemic. Also, Wendy Galbraith made Adirondack themed face masks which were sold from the Marina or by contacting Wendy (wgalbraith52@gmail.com ).Price $10, half went to support FHHL.
Library –There is interest in adding movie DVD and BluRay disks to the library collection, available on the same honor system as books. If you have disks that you no longer need, please donate them to the library.
Oral Histories – We added new interviews for Larry and Merriam Hansen and Cathy Aiken. We hope the Summer of 2021will see additional interviews. Helena Goldsmith Rice has edited several to a format that is more suitable for publishing in formal book form.
Digitizing Huletts History – Added a poster of the 1892 Huletts House brochure. Lucy White researched and prepared an article on the role of Whitehall on the 1832 Cholera Pandemic (see HistoricHuletts.org).
Gallery Shop – Volunteers who are interested in developing new items should contact Jim McMaster. We have two new Fundraising Items which will be for sale starting in 2021.
· Stoddard 1906-7-8 Hydrographic Map of Lake George. A vertical map showing Lake Depths. Gift of David and Marian Knight. Vertical format, about 12” x 54”.
· Steamboat Timeline – a bar graph showing when each of Lake George’s major steam or tour boats from 1807 to 2020. Horizontal format, about 12” x 40”.
We will print some of these suitable for hanging or framing, size and price to be determined (probably $50 to $100.). Please E-mail Jim McMaster if you are interested to help determine how many we should print.
Membership – Even though we had no program this year, some costs continue. Our expenses include program costs, electric power, insurance, and some building maintenance. Dues are a key part of the revenue needed to sustain the programs. If you can, please pay regular dues or some portion thereof. Checks can be sent to Tom Keating, Treasurer FHHL at PO Box 82, Huletts Landing, NY 12841. Continued support is needed. We encourage you to join at whatever level you can, and to then participate in events or get involved however you can.
E-Mail List – Be sure to keep your E-mail address up to date or send changes to info@HistoricHuletts.org. You do not have to be a Member to be included on this list.
Stay safe. Best wishes for a happy end of year and a safe 2021.
Jim
